Platform of the East Haddam Democratic Town Committee/Candidates for 2023 Municipal Election.
1. Responsible and Transparent Fiscal Management.
We support keeping East Haddam affordable by: balancing the needs of the community; developing a more fair tax burden; ensuring our tax dollars are used responsibly; eliminating wasteful spending; growing our grand list by attracting new businesses and expanding our traditional tourist and vacation economy; securing grants and all available state and federal funds; and making sure the education budget provides a direct benefit to students.
2. Continue the Democratic initiative for Building a Community Broadband Network
As a rural community we need reliable, high-speed, affordable internet service to attract and support small businesses; to enable more of our town residents to work from home, and to provide educational opportunities and support for our students. Building our own may be East Haddam’s best long-term option to ensure universal and affordable access to everyone.
3. Initiate a More Responsible Redevelopment of the Village and Moodus Center
We support sustainable redevelopment of the Village and Moodus Center districts that is compatible with East Haddam’s small-town, historic character, follows the East Haddam Plan of Conservation and Development and meets the expressed needs of the local community.
4. East Haddam’s Farms and Open Space
We support maintaining East Haddam’s rural character by preserving and expanding its farms and open space.
